This is the tropical billboard that I made on photoshop. In creating this billboard, I got to learn how to edit photos, add text, add a clip masking layer and removing backgrounds. Let me tell you how I created this billboard!
First, I had to go find some images on the web to use as my background. I wanted my tropical billboard to have a beach setting because it'll give the viewers a visual of a tropical paradise. Finding images on the web for this billboard was kinda difficult. There were so many beach images I wanted to use but some of the files decided to be too small and when I resize them, they'll become too pixelated. One thing I wanted to do was find a good quality beach image from Sabah, Malaysia because I know my mother's country got some really good tropical beaches! But, there weren't any good quality images and my photos on my phone were terrible so, I ended up finding the tropical beach image you see in my billboard. It's quite decent and it worked well!
So now we go onto the step process on how I made this billboard. I began by editing the photo. The original was a little dark and I went to brighten up the image. Along with that, I edited the contrast slightly and also added a little bit of a blue/green tint to it. Adjusting the colours on the photo help make the ocean water stand out. I really wanted the water to look very tropical. After saving my edited image, I then added in some text! I really didn't know what to write on the billboard so, I just decided to add in some ocean quotes I found online. I thought the quote I added reflected the image. Looking at the picture looks like a very calming place to be at, so the quote really does represent the image a bit!
Now, along with the text. I did a clipping mask layer for it. That’s how I got that gradient-like colour in the text! The background colour of the text came from another beach image. I wanted the text to have some sort of ocean texture to it so that it matches the theme of the billboard. After completing that, I did some more editing with the text. I realize how it blended in too much with the water in the background. So, to make it stand out, I increased the stroke of the text to give it a thick, black outline.
We’re almost done! All I had to do now is find and add in a logo. I went online to find some beach related logos. I tried to find one with a white background because this is where I learn how to remove the white background of it! When I finally found the logo I wanted, which is the one in my billboard, I opened a separate document so that I don’t screw things up with the background and text. I used the magic wand to remove the white background, saved the image as a jpg, and embedded it into the other document with my background. I resized it and decided to place it in the corner.
And there you have it! My beautiful simple tropical billboard! I wish I was at the beach right now. I want to go back to Malaysia and watch all the small crabs run around all over the beach's sand. They were entertaining for me. I really just stand there for like an hour watching crabs scramble around everywhere and being flipped over by the small waves... Well, ANYWAYS! I like my billboard. I learned new things in Photoshop and that was fun! :D
